BGL Rieber is reporting higher-than-usual demand for its Thermoport 10 individual meal boxes.

The company is now urging distributors to get their orders in fast to meet the demand created by Ramadan.

Muslim prisoners fast from dawn to sundown for 30 days each year during Ramadan, which this year begins on Sunday 29 June.

Rieber says this has traditionally created a logistical problem for prison caterers, with many having to serve up sandwich-based meals, hot soups and stews in vacuum flasks. Both methods required extra labour and supervision.

However, with Rieber’s Thermoport 10 insulated food containers, a meal can be kept hot for more than four hours.

The boxes are filled during the usual meal service for collection by prisoners. “No extra labour is required and prisoners get a hot meal when they are ready,” says the firm.
