Scott Turner, marketing assistant at Birmingham-based dealer, Zodiac Stainless Products, is urgently trying to raise £6,500 to restore his fiancé Alex’s vision.
In January 2016 Alex lost the majority of her sight in her right eye, which then moved to her left eye in May 2016, leaving her severely sight impaired (blind).
Having just got engaged and moving into her first home with Scott, Alex’s whole life was then put on hold, as the couple had to delay wedding plans, and she was unable to work and housebound at just 22 years old.
Over the course of the year, Alex was given increasingly bad news, culminating in a diagnosis of optic neuropathy (severe optic nerve damage), the cause of which is still unknown. She was told by her consultant that there was nothing more that can be done.
However, reluctant to believe that there were no more answers and that Alex would have to live with sight impairment for the rest of her life, Scott went online and found the Restore Vision Clinic in Germany. After reading stories and reports on the treatment (therapeutic electrical stimulation), together they applied and Alex was told that she would be eligible for the treatment and was given a variety of dates to choose from.
The soonest date available is next month (March 2017) and the dates continue to June 2017. As this treatment is not covered by the NHS, this means the couple need funds to be raised as soon as possible.
Therefore Scott set up a GoFundMe page to raise the £6,500 required to cover the costs of the treatment, flights and accommodation.
