Cofresco Foodservice and Wrapmaster has extended its support for the British Culinary Federation (BCF) for another year by sponsoring the England National Team, Student ‘Cook and Serve’ Team Challenge, as well as the BCF Young Chef of the Year.
The sponsorship is part of the light catering equipment supplier’s ongoing commitment to chefs during every aspect of their professional culinary career. The current tranche of support will start with the 24th BCF Young Chef of the Year where each finalist will be going home with a Wrapmaster Compact film and foil dispenser for use in their kitchen after the event.
BCF’s competition is an opportunity for chefs under the age of 23 to showcase their talent and provides a platform to give their cooking career a head start. Successful finalists will have the chance to secure the David Bache trophy, a cheque for £500, commemorative plate and framed certificate.
The competition will take place on 22 November 2021 at the University College Birmingham and will be followed by dinner and the prizegiving. The young chefs will be asked to prepare a three-course meal for two including a plant-based starter, main course and a dessert of their choosing, in just two hours. Chefs will be assessed based on presentation including taste, their technical culinary skills, and key in these times – hygiene practices.
Cofresco Foodservice MD Adrian Brown said: “We’re delighted to be able to continue our support of a vital industry organisation such as the BCF and to see the return of the Young Chef of the Year competition!
“Encouraging young chefs to explore their talents in cooking and further their career is so important to us at Wrapmaster, which is why we are proud to support this competition for another year. It has been a challenging 18 months for everyone in the industry, especially young chefs, and we are over the moon to see the return of live events, with professional chefs and peers championing each other’s skill.”
To help finalists tick the box of excellent hygiene practices, a selection of Wrapmaster dispensing systems will be available to use throughout the competition. The system has been developed to ensure safe and speedy cutting of film, foil and baking parchment and can be easily sanitised to help avoid cross-contamination.
Brown continued: “In times like these, conscientious choices surrounding hygiene standards is imperative. The competition provides an excellent opportunity for young chefs to experience working with Wrapmaster and benefit from what it has to offer. We’re looking forward to supporting this key event in junior chefs’ calendars and can’t wait to see the dishes they come up with.”
