Steve Steadman, Viessmann Refrigeration Systems’ UK and Ireland MD, advises distributors on what they should consider when adding coldrooms to an outfit project:

When it comes to specifying coldrooms for commercial catering projects, distributors often come across a common set of hurdles which can be easily conquered through communication with the manufacturer.

As one of the UK’s leading manufacturers of innovative refrigeration solutions, the team here at Viessmann UK make it our mission to work closely with distributors to ensure that their work is as easy as possible and that all projects which have specified our products, run smoothly.

Common installation challenges are usually found with the positioning of remote plant and associated pipework. Finding a reasonable location for the condensing unit within its limitations is the key to keeping the price down for the customer and making the installation easier.

At Viessmann, we survey every site we sell, but if a survey hasn’t been completed, distributors can suffer from problems affecting the coldroom’s structure such as flooring issues, where a level base is not provided or recess depths are incorrect. Restricted access into sites can also be a common installation challenge.

Space for coldrooms can often be limited, so distributors should try and keep the room as square as possible in order to increase the efficiency of the space.

At Viessmann, our coldrooms have three different height options, going to 1,950mm, 2,250mm and 2,550mm internally, allowing a scope to make the most of the space. For those looking for a bespoke product, we can deliver numerous heights up to 7,000mm.

A dialogue between the distributor and the manufacturer is vital to avoid and tackle these issues. This will allow both teams to assess the viability of the locations for plant and assess the access and egress in order to overcome any problems at an early stage.

Distributors should look for customisable options or attractive standard options when specifying a coldroom, such as those that will make the coldroom more energy efficient for the client. If you’re a distributor looking for market-leading options, then Viessmann’s products come with a range of features that make them far more attractive.

An anti-microbial additive in our panels prevents the build up of harmful bacteria and mould on the panels, meaning hygiene standards are at the highest level. We are also able to offer hydrocarbon, integral systems for a greener option and more energy efficient model.

LED lighting comes as standard throughout our range, as well as stainless steel floors – we are also offering a PIR light in our compact room, so there is no need for a light switch on the front of the coldroom. New for 2018 is our touch light switch and digital readout, which are an upgrade on the current switch.

After-sales service and support is also a key feature to look out for. At Viessmann, we offer a full parts and labour service, with 24 hour and four hour service response available, as well as a five panel defect warranty and additional extended warranties and maintenance packages, should these be required.
