Williams puts best foot forward for coldrooms

Williams has developed a foot-operated coldroom door pedal.

Williams has launched a foot-operated door opener that is compatible with its modular coldrooms.

The device should allow staff to enter the room without having to touch the door with their hands. Williams believes it to be the first of its kind for coldroom applications.

Constructed from stainless steel, the foot-activated pedal operates a lever to open the door to the coldroom. The system incorporates a clip that holds the door latch open, so that the handle doesn’t need to be touched at all. The new unit should not affect the thermal integrity of the coldroom.

The foot operated system is designed to reduce touch points to meet the heightened hygiene standards that are an important part of the response to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Secondly, the hands-free access could be useful for staff to bring product into the coldroom without having to juggle what they’re carrying while opening the door.

The mechanical device and can be added to an existing installation or specified as part of a new project.

Malcolm Harling, sales and marketing director of Williams, said: “The new foot-operated opener is going to make life easier for staff, and help them maintain stringent hygiene standards. The fact that it can be retrofitted to existing Williams coldrooms is an important benefit, too.”

The foot-operated door opener costs from £350, depending on the coldroom design.
