Imparting industry knowledge and advice is the mainstay of any god local supplier, so when a customer gives an endorsement of the service they have received it is always pleasing.
That’s certainly the case for catering equipment distributor Whitco, which has been given the thumbs-up from the Old Bridge Hotel in Huntingdon for the warewashing equipment that it specified earlier this year.
The restaurant at the Old Bridge has twice won the AA award for best UK wine list, with wine tastings a regular event on the calendar. Its on-site wine shop is open until 10pm daily.
So when owner and master of wine, John Hoskins, sought a commercial glasswasher to meet the high standards of the hotel, he was glad he approached Whitco’s MD Jeff Whitaker, who suggested the Meiko FV40.2GiO model.
“You have to trust your suppliers to give the right advice and Jeff’s input was very positive, as was that of the representative from Meiko,” said Hoskins.
Although Hoskins conceded that the machine was more expensive than other alternatives on the market, the savings in chemicals and absence of a water softener made the investment worthwhile.
“More importantly, it reduces the need to hand polish the glassware — this has not been entirely eliminated, but almost,” he added. “We have only had one issue with the machine, following its first six-month service, when it stopped working, but the fact is Meiko were back and had the machine sorted out within one hour.”
