Whitco’s Jeff and Vita Whitaker spent a night sleeping in a churchyard last week as part of an event to raise money for a local charity.
The pair have currently raised £2,800 to help Northampton’s homeless, but are hoping to get the tally up to £3,000.
Along with other volunteers, the Whitakers braved the cold weather to spend 12 hours in Northampton’s St Giles Churchyard, with only sleeping bags, cardboard boxes and blankets to protect them from the elements.
All the money raised will be given to the Hope Centre, which helps homeless people in Northampton.
Vita Whitaker said: “Whitco has supported this charity for 18 years and has seen a very basic soup kitchen grow into a professional centre that not only provides food, warmth and accommodation and advice but training and assistance which helps many back into work. In fact, one area of training is dedicated to catering.”
