An online cloud platform is bidding to help small businesses in the food and catering sector drive down costs by effectively tendering their product needs to potential suppliers.
WeGetQuotes.com has been set up to provide registered business product buyers in niche markets to request quotations for products their businesses need.
Suppliers in the sector community are then alerted free of charge and invited to forward a quotation to the buyer.
There are no barriers for entry for the seller or the buyer, but the successful seller must pay a commission ranging from 2% to 6% if the transaction is made.
Founder, Steve Swan, says the technology offers an innovative way for smaller companies to get the most for their money.
“Our platform can deliver an immediate and unexpected value to companies in the food and catering sector. We are committed in building a sustainable community where pet product companies can thrive without any commercial pressure,” he said.
With large corporate companies making for such tough competition, small businesses are often losing out. Even though small businesses alone provide 47% of UK private sector employment, they account for only 34% of annual turnover, said Swan.
This, he added, is why SMEs need to start evolving the way they do business. “Innovative online marketplaces like WeGetQuotes.com provide great templates for future trading models,” he said.
“By having specialised categories for trading food and catering products, these matchmaker services can pair up enthusiastic buyers and sellers in order to help cultivate a closer sense of community among members.”
