Ashton-under-Lyne-based FSW Catering Equipment & Gas Services is planning to open what it is naming the Visionary Training Centre near its premises this year.
The catering equipment supplier, installer and maintenance firm will be working with local colleges and government, and is also looking for equipment manufacturers and other service providers to help and invest into this training facility.
Education provided would cover the topics of installation and service, reactive and maintenance, on site health and safety, and extraction and ventilation.
Frank Winterbottom, founder of FSW Gas Services, Cater Rent UK and FSW Ventilation, detailed: “As I started to build FSW Gas Services in 2013 I quickly realised that we didn’t have enough catering engineers to cover the demand of the customer’s needs.
“So our next step was to train our own employees, but we soon hit a brick wall.
“The only way we could do this was with in-house training or sending engineers on courses that didn’t really cover everything they needed, but did give them experience and competence to cover things like electrical installation (which we would then train them on appliances) and fault finding, which is a big part of the industry.
“After advertising for engineers and speaking to our competition and larger counterparts, I soon realised that there is a shortage of training centres to provide the correct courses the engineers require to fulfil their potential and necessary skills.
“It is important for the future of our business. If we at the forefront can’t find the correct training then how are our future engineers going to find this training?”
He appealed: “I would encourage any business that wants to know more about this or to get involved to contact me.”
