Dozens of catering equipment companies have supplied kit for the Olympic Games, but one distributor has revealed that a member of its staff is set to have an altogether more hands-on role at the sporting extravaganza.
Vision Commercial Kitchens has confirmed that David Bryant, a key account manager at the Lancashire company, will serve as a National Technical Official for the Paralympic Games blind five-a-side football competition.
Bryant received the news of his selection this week and will take time out from his normal day job once the Paralympics kick off at the end of this month.
Bryant has trained with the FA and IBSA in order to officiate the National Blind Futsal league on a regular basis and been selected to officiate at the Paralympics with five other referees.
The five-a-side football competition is made up of eight teams and is played by visually impaired athletes who wear blindfolds to ensure fairness. The only sighted players on the pitch are the goalkeepers. Outfield players rely on listening to each other and the ball, which contains a noise-making device, as well as guides on the side of the pitch.
Vision said it would like to wish David all the best at the Games.
