Universal hires Baron brand manager

Universal Foodservice Equipment has strengthened its sales team with the appointment of a new head to manage the Baron line of commercial cooking equipment.

Steve Beard has joined the Surrey-based company as sales and marketing manager with a specific brief to grow UK sales of Baron, which is an Ali Group brand.

Universal FSE was established 12 years ago specifically to bring Baron suites to the UK and managing director, Roger Flanagan, believes the appointment will kickstart a period of solid growth for the brand.

“I have known and worked with Steve on and off over the last 25 years and when he became available it was too good an opportunity to miss,” he said. “We have been looking for some time to find the right person to continue the development of Baron and his addition will be a real bonus to the brand and Universal.”

Beard has a long association with the catering and hospitality industry through sales roles in the industry trade press, and was most recently part of Catering Insight’s very own commercial team. He also has hotel management, technical and facilities management experience.

Beard said his objectives include growing Baron’s presence in new market sectors and improving awareness of the overall company in the market. As well as Baron, Universal is also responsible for UK sales of Olis, another Ali Group brand.

“I am really looking forward to the new challenge, working with and building on the successes already in place as the industry comes out of a tough trading period,” stated Beard. “Baron is a really great brand with a loyal following and my objective is to continue those relationships and bring others to the company.”
