UK barware supplier sells 70% of business

British barware supplier John Artis Limited has sold 70% of its share equity to German porcelain manufacturer, BHS tabletop AG.

The Surrey-based outfit is a leading name in the UK out-of-home table and barware markets and has been established for almost 70 years.

Originally founded by John Artis Snr. in 1945, the company is now run by his son, John Artis Jr. as managing director, with further equity held by several fellow directors.

Artis today said that the day-to-day management of the firm will remain unchanged moving forward, however it welcomed the additional management expertise that BHS can provide. Artis staff and directors will continue in their existing roles.

BHS specialises in the manufacture of porcelain for the hospitality and foodservice industry. Two of its leading brands, Bauscher and Tafelstern, will now be available for Artis to sell in the UK.

John Artis insists the companies share the same high standards of product quality and marketing expertise.

“Our objective, as always, is to provide a range of products and a level of service and continuity to the hospitality and foodservice sectors in the UK and Ireland that is second to none.

“This exciting move will help us achieve that and more. From a personal perspective, I wanted to pass the company, which is my life’s work, into strong and capable hands. My fellow shareholders and I are looking forward to driving the next phase of growth for Artis in harmony with BHS tabletop AG.”
