Thief who stole from Mainland is prosecuted


Haslingden-based Mainland Catering Equipment has seen justice done, with the thief who stole items totalling £1,720 being prosecuted at the end of December in Burnley Magistrates Court.

According to the Rossdale Free Press, Barry Whelan, 26, of South View, Haslingden, pleaded guilty to trespassing at Mainland and stealing the equipment.

He was given a 12-month community order with a 25-day rehabilitation activity requirement, 100 hours’ unpaid work and ordered to pay £750 compensation and a £180 criminal courts charge.

Mainland designs and refurbishes professional catering areas, manufactures bespoke fabrications, as well as selling new and refurbished catering equipment.

The company was established in 1997 by John Hardie and Andrew Haworth, who collectively have 50 years’ experience in the commercial kitchen industry.
