First Choice Group’s marketing manager, Terry Stack, has now retired from the company after 11 years of service.
Formerly with Electrolux, Stack has cultivated, developed and managed marketing operations at the firm for more than a decade.
But now, hundreds of catalogues and brochures later and having helped his employer achieve its status as a leading UK supplier of catering spare parts, Stack has bid farewell to the industry.
“Originally I’d trained to work in a drawing office as a draftsman, then an illustrator, drawing spare parts,” he said.
“I lived in a different era, before technology. Marketing has totally changed; it used to be all outbound, now it offers an instant communication. The fact it can handle and effectively manage such massive amounts of data at the same time is a game-changer.
“The biggest impact I’ve seen in the catering industry over the last 25 years or so has been the combi oven and the microwave. They changed everything.
“Having previously spent 40 years working in an industry that was (then) in decline, it was refreshing to join a company like First Choice Group, one with ambition and new ideas in an exciting market full of opportunity.”
Helen Nicks, who has succeeded Stack as First Choice Group marketing manager, paid tribute to her predecessor.
“What Terry has achieved at First Choice is remarkable; he was the marketing department,” she said.
“His wealth of knowledge on the industry, his experience and success in consistently delivering first class advertising, graphic design and editorial makes him virtually irreplaceable. I’ve certainly got big shoes to fill.”
Director Carl Bate, who recruited Terry after first working with him at Electrolux, also paid tribute: “I’ve got some great memories of conversations we’ve had together. Among the best were Terry’s assertions that David Beckham can’t pass the ball and that smoking is good for you!
“He has been wonderful for First Choice Group, instrumental in helping the company to get to where it is today. I wish him a very happy retirement, it’s well-earned.”
Fellow First Choice director, John Whitehouse, also reflected on Terry’s contribution. “We brought Terry in to help us grow the business,” he said.
“When you’re working in an industry that’s as vibrant and challenging as catering your marketing has to be competitive and innovative.
“What Terry was able to achieve has laid the foundations for our success. His contribution has helped to put the company in a strong position, where we can look to the future with confidence.”
