Heywood-based distributor, Vision Commercial Kitchens, is continuing its ‘Vision Miles’ initiative to help raise funds for hospital charity, The Christie.

Finance and operations director, Jarrod Ashton, will be taking part in the Manchester to Blackpool cycle ride on 4 July, in memory of his brother who was treated at The Christie in Withington.

Ashton, who initiated the Vision Miles Challenge, will be tackling a 60-mile route which starts at Media City at Salford Quays and finishes on Blackpool’s South Promenade.

Over the past few years, Vision has taken part in a number of fundraising activities for The Christie charity, and with the Covid-19 pandemic meaning group fundraising activities were postponed, the distributor’s team decided to come together remotely to walk, run and cycle as many miles as possible to continue its fundraising efforts.

After 4 months of recording its miles since March, Team Vision has reached a total of 5,791 miles, 4,452 of which were walked, 277 run and 1,062 cycled.

Ashton commented: “As a business, Vision recognises it has a wider social responsibility, with the Covid restrictions not allowing us to come together as a team, we decided that we could still fundraise all be it remotely, with each member of our Team Vision choosing to fundraise by either walking, running, cycling or a mixture of all three, hence the Vision Miles challenge was created.

“We continue to support The Christie Charity and the amazing work that it does in the fight against cancer. One in two people born after 1960 will get cancer at some stage in their lifetime, we see our fundraising as a positive way in contributing to the fight against cancer, and a way in which the Vision Family can give something back to society.

“The Vision Board are extremely proud of our team’s efforts.”
