TAG Catering Equipment has gained the distinction of installing the 600,000th combi steamer manufactured by Rational.
The Hertfordshire-based distributor played its part in Rational hitting the milestone figure after putting the machine into The Savoy, Strand, in London.
TAG’s managing director, Martin Stephens-Smith, said the 10 grid unit will give kitchen staff the cooking output and performance they need from a combi oven.
“The flexibility the SelfCookingCenter gives, especially for the hotel’s short service menu, was a key issue — that’s why they replaced the previous combis, which were only a couple of years old, with Rational,” he said.
Lee Norton, managing director of Rational UK, said he was delighted to have the 600,000th unit installed in Great Britain, especially in such a prestigious site.
“It’s a feather in our cap,” he said. “Rational invented the combi steamer back in 1976 and has stayed at the leading edge of the technology by focusing on the one product. We can be best because it’s the only thing we do. That’s why Rational has over 50% of the UK market.”
