Supplier relieved to ease warehouse pressure

Light equipment and tableware supplier Stephensons has officially opened a neighbouring warehouse formerly occupied by Piggott & Whitefield.

The red ribbon was cut by managing director Henry Stephenson, commercial director Julian Lewis-Booth and chairman Michael Stephenson.

Staff gathered around with a drink to celebrate the occasion, which has seen its Stockport-based site expand from 20,000 sq ft to over 30,000 sq ft in a deal worth more than £500,000.

Henry Stephenson said: “We have recorded good growth over the last five years and, as such, our site capacity has been severely stretched during busy seasonal periods. With reduced warehouse pressure, our customers will receive an improved service, as well as even better prices as a result of our increased buying capability.”

Stephensons had begun seeking additional space elsewhere, but said it made more sense to take on the adjacent property that became available as it meant no significant impact on staff or for the large number of customers which use its Cash and Carry service.

“After 45 successful years at our current location, I’m delighted we have been able to take steps to ensure our premises can continue to grow with us,” said Stephensons.
