GEV Catering Spares is preparing to launch a mobile app that will make it possible for catering service engineers to access full parts information while on site.
The app will allow engineers to search for spare parts according to model or part number, enabling them to identify the item they need precisely and accurately.
GEV says the technology won’t just make life easier for engineers, but reduce the burden on back office and purchasing staff as theoretically it means quotations can be prepared by the engineer before leaving the customer’s premises.
As well as providing technical details, the app gives engineers access to the latest price and stock information.
Bryn Vivian, sales and administration director of GEV, said the company’s aim was to develop an app that combined functionality and user-friendliness with speed of access.
“Catering service engineers are involved in a demanding line of work that calls for technical accuracy and speed of work,” he said.
“Our new app provides full access to a customer’s Webshop account where drawings, parts lists and detailed parts specifications can be found. This virtual toolbox of resources enables field engineers using a single, mobile device to work efficiently and complete work in a single site visit.”
The app will run on Android and Apple devices, he added.
GEV’s catalogue encompasses spares for gas, electric, warewashing, refrigeration and coffee-making equipment. Its online Webshop contains one million parts that can be searched for by model number, OEM part number or description.
It currently has more than 70,000 lines of stock available at all times and a purpose-built logistics system behind it.
Vivian said that customers would be able to see the app at Hotelympia stand 2076, where it is exhibiting for the first time.
