Sous Vide Tools has introduced what it says is “the world’s smartest sous vide tool to date”.

The iVide Cooker is an app-controlled appliance which is designed to heat food to the perfect temperature every time, said to avoid overcooking.

The app to control the entry-level unit is available to download from the Apple Store and Google Play.

The iVide Cooker functions by placing food inside a vacuum-sealed bag then, using the adjustable clamp, attaching this to a pot or saucepan of up to 20 litres in capacity and setting the time and temperature via the iVide app, which is loaded with more than 600 recipes.

The unit heats to temperatures between 0°C to 90°C with an accuracy of 0.1°C and will heat and circulate the water in the pan at rate of 8 litres per minute, which should eliminate any hot or cold spots.

A calculator feature lets the user select the weight of the food and the required level of ‘doneness’ – the iVide Cooker should do the rest in virtual silence, providing both audio and visual notifications at the end of the set cooking time, at which point the chef removes the food from the pouch and finishes it in a hot pan.

All the times and temperatures are stored in the onboard calculator with the 600 recipes said to be there to provide inspiration, unlike other devices where all the focus is on the recipes.

The temperature and time controls are designed to be fully waterproof, while other safety features include a low level water protection function that switches off the device to ensure that the pan does not boil dry. The ergonomic rubberised body has a detachable stainless steel sleeve for easy cleaning. After cooking, the user can unclamp the compact, space-saving unit and store it in the cupboard until next time.

The iVide Cooker is offered with a 2-year parts and labour warranty and is priced at £139.99 including VAT.
