A supplier of specialist cooking equipment set up by a former salesman at Husky Refrigeration is on course to do more than a million pounds’ worth of business this year.
Lancashire-based SousVideTools.com, which was founded by Alex Shannon, is set to post a turnover of more than £1.2m at the end of the financial year, as it continues to grow its presence in the UK and abroad.
The company’s sous vide and vacuum packing equipment is now used by various professional chefs and restaurants, including the Gordon Ramsay Estate.
Prior to setting up the company, Shannon spent a year at sustainable refrigeration company Elstat after joining them from Husky Refrigeration, where he was EMEA sales director.
He said: “My line of work meant that I was introduced to an Italian company called Foodtek. They were looking for a UK distributor of their sous vide products and approached me with some samples. I was so impressed by the products that I decided to take the plunge and I resigned from my job to set up SousVideTools.com.”
Since forming the business, two and a half years ago, Shannon has struck distribution agreements with Polyscience and SousVide Supreme and is supplying to Michelin starred restaurants.
The company has received business growth advice and financial support from fellow Lancashire firm Moore and Smalley. They have even taken control of SousVideTools.com’s accounts, a move that Shannon credits for it becoming a much more structured operation.
“It has also played an important role in helping us to build our reputation internationally. We had very little knowledge of the market outside of the UK and the advice and support Moore and Smalley provided has been invaluable,” he said/
As well as the Gordon Ramsay Estate, SousVideTools.com’s clients include leading restaurants L’Enclume in Cumbria and Northcote Manor in Blackburn, along with the Lake District’s Gilpin Lodge and Manchester House, Manchester.
