A team of Smeg UK staff has finished a bespoke 300-mile bike ride from Venice to Milan between 24 and 28 June.
The event was organised to raise money for children’s charity Action Medical Research.
After a team undertook Action’s London to Paris ride in 2014, this year the Abingdon-based appliance supplier took its support up a gear with a challenging tour created by Action’s cycling experts between the mountains of Northern Italy.
The ride, which saw 35 cyclists, including Smeg customers and employees, covering roads from, has put Smeg UK on course to beat last year’s fundraising total of £30,000.
“Everyone had a great time and put so much energy into the Italian adventure,” says Oly Watts, challenge events manager at Action Medical Research.
“We’re very grateful for the efforts of everyone who took part, as well as all those who have sponsored them – the money will go a long way towards our work funding medical research into conditions affecting babies and children.
“This was the first time we created a bespoke ride for a company which is supporting us so we’d love to hear from other energetic firms who are keen to get on their bikes and ride for a reason.”
Mike Giddings, Smeg UK’s MD, said: “At Smeg UK we’re committed to the communities in which we serve, particularly in the charity arena. Nationally, we work hard in support of Action Medical Research, fundraising right the way across our business. To date we’ve raised a fantastic £45,000, from marathons to bake sales, office walks to Paddington Bear promotions, quiz nights to Come Dine With Me events.”
