North East kitchen house Sigma Catering Equipment has branched out with the creation of its own installation and service company.
The firm has founded a sister business called Sigma Installation Services, which will provide catering equipment services to end-users based in the north of England.
Sigma hopes the move will reduce its dependence on sub-contractors for service work.
Chris Keith, director of Wallsend-based Sigma, said the installation business would be led by new business partner, Kevin Erskine, a catering engineer with enormous experience of the industry.
“One of the most important aspects of any business is having the right people in the right positions,” said Keith. “We have been interested in launching our own service company for a number of years, and feel the time is now right as we have a business which sub-contracts a high turnover on service. It is a natural progression for Sigma Catering Equipment.”
The business, which will carry out installations and service work for new and existing clients, plans to bring more engineers on board if there is demand for it.
Keith added: “Initially we have qualified engineers to cover both mechanical and electrical works along with administration to manage jobs from initial service call through to job sign off. But we do intend to add further engineers as the business grows because we recognise the importance of rapid response to breakdowns on equipment within our industry.”
