Tyne & Wear-based dealer, Sigma Catering Equipment, has taken on a third year apprentice as a CAD design technician.

The new addition, Ben Cottiss, is continuing his NVQ level 3 with Sigma for the next 2 years, having previously completed his BTEC level 3 in operations and maintenance of engineering in June last year through Tyne Met College.

He will initially be responsible for the production of CAD layout and service drawings and estimating. The distributor has designed a training programme for him, which will include product training utilising its manufacturing partners and the e-learning platform which has been developed by CEDA to enable him to become a valued member of the company’s team and the industry in general.

Sigma’s director, Chris Keith said: “We have been looking to add to our team for a number of months due to continued workload and restructuring of roles within the business. I have been keen to bring young blood in to the business as I think we have all identified that this is needed within our industry.

“Ben is an outstanding young man who has grasped the opportunity with both hands, he is keen to learn about all aspects of the business and I see a bright future for him at Sigma.

“When given the news of his appointment he commented that he was very excited to be joining us, which was great to hear.”
