Essex police are hunting thieves who stole several thousand pounds worth of professional kitchen appliances from a local scout hut.
An estimated £5,000 worth of items, including catering equipment and electrical cabling, were taken from Newport Scout Group headquarters at the end of last month.
The appliances that were taken during the theft haven’t been specified, but Essex Police confirmed the break-in took place on Sunday 23rd September.
“We would like to hear from anyone who saw any suspicious activity from that Sunday afternoon onwards to contact us as they could be key witnesses,” said a spokesman for Essex police.
All of the kitchen equipment that was stolen had been purchased through previous fundraising efforts.
The scout group were banking on using it next month to serve food and refreshments to spectators attending the local annual fireworks display.
As the insurance pay-out is unlikely to have happened before then, the scout group is understood to be looking at alternative sources to replace the equipment that was stolen.
