Scotsman gives ice machines a facelift

Scotsman Ice Systems has launched a nugget ice-making machine with a difference: it is designed to be on display in customer-facing locations rather than stowed away in the kitchen.

Billed as an extension to its stylish Six Series ice cube makers, the self-contained AFC134 promises to bring a touch of class to a product category normally considered a back-of-house workhorse.

The AFC134, which is available through the company’s UK distributor Hubbard Ice Systems, features sleek Italian styling with no sharp edges, an ergonomic quiet-close ice bin door and low-noise compressor and auger.

These features make it ideal for undercounter positioning at the point of use, according to the company.

Nugget ice is one of the hardest and driest types of ice. Compressed superflake ice is extruded using an enhanced evaporator auger and strengthened gearbox to produce regular ‘nugget-shaped’ ice pellets from between one and five grams in weight or an irregular, smaller, one gram ‘cubelet’.

Both examples contain 90% of pure ice with as little as 10% of residual water ensuring a long display-life with consequent energy and cost savings.

Aimed at smaller sized fresh food displays within restaurants and cafés, the new self-contained AFC134 fits under standard counters.
