The parent company of Burco and Lec Commercial has landed a prestigious Queen’s Award for Enterprise following the growth of its export business over the past year.

Glen Dimplex Home Appliances, which is the group company for Glen Dimplex Professional Appliances (GDPA), picked up the accolade in the International Trade category after overseas sales of its British-made kit grew 880%.

The company, which manufactures cooking, refrigeration and beverage making equipment at its production facilities in Prescot, Merseyside, was presented with its award by HRH the Duke of Kent.

GDPA’s marketing manager, Jon Usher said the award reflects the appetite that overseas customers have for catering equipment made in the UK.

He said: “This is a significant achievement for a British manufacturer operating in a challenging marketplace and it just goes to show that ‘Made in Britain’ is a still a mark of quality and much appreciated overseas. It is an accolade that we are extremely proud of and marks many years of hard work by people across the business.”

The Queen’s Award for Enterprise is an accolade for business performance, and recognises and rewards outstanding achievement. The awards are made each year by the Queen, on the recommendation of an advisory committee, including representatives of government, industry and commerce, and trade unions.
