Rio Ferdinand takes gas safety seriously

Manchester United footballer Rio Ferdinand’s restaurant, Rosso, has installed a new gas safety system in its kitchen.

Gas safety specialist S&S Northern — which claims to have a “long list” of Premiership footballers and A-grade celebrities on its books — supplied the system that Combi-Vent of Denton installed at the Italian restaurant in the centre of Manchester.

The Merlin CT1250 interlock system ensures that staff working in Rosso’s kitchen are not exposed to high levels of carbon dioxide from gas cookers without a functioning ventilation system.

“Rosso contacted us to fit a new gas interlock system when they discovered the one that had been fitted did not work properly and was incorrectly wired,” said Combi-Vent’s Adam Brewster. “Obviously a top restaurant like Rosso’s was keen to ensure safe working conditions for staff so we chose S&S Northern’s Merlin CT1250 gas interlock system for the project.”

Steve McMahon, boss of S&S Northern, said Rosso was one of a number of different operators that the company has been involved with of late.

“Recently we have supplied to projects at Rivington Services, Old Trafford Cricket Club, the Pizza Hut Delivery chain and the House of Lords,” he said.

All new or refurbished commercial kitchens in the UK are now required by law to have a fully functioning gas interlock system which meets BS 6173.
