RH Hall’s Bedfordshire demo kitchen was the backdrop for a special competition to find the country’s top BBQ chef using commercial equipment from Crown Verity.
Three chefs —Sinna Thambi, Wayne Harris and Mike Harrison — each produced their version of a three-course BBQ themed meal developed by Partridges of Sloane Square in a separate competition arranged by RH Hall earlier this year.
Harris, a development chef at NH Case, emerged as the eventual winner with his version of a menu that included grilled mushrooms and Jamaican marinated pork tenderloin sandwiches.
Ray Hall, managing director of RH Hall, said the event had been a big success for the company, which has been supplying catering equipment to the market for more than 30 years.
“This is our first year not only holding the event but in launching the challenging to find the best themed BBQ menu,” he said. “I intend to continue both the ‘Best BBQ Themed Menu’ and the ‘Crown Verity BBQ Chef of the Year’ and I am sure it will become a major event in the catering calendar.”
Crown Verity produces a range of commercial kitchen equipment, including barbecue grills, patio heaters and portable sinks, which RH Hall distributes in the UK market. The manufacturer’s president, Bill Verity, was at RH Hall’s HQ to witness the cook-off.
Kris Brearley, RH Hall’s sales director, said the competition outlined the flexibility of commercial outdoor BBQ equipment.
“I think [the event] proved that if you think about your outdoor area as your kitchen there is no limit to what can be produced on these BBQ systems,” he said. “The chefs all cooked a complete menu that would sit comfortably on any top class restaurant table.”
