Restaurateur banned for kitchen hygiene breaches


The perils of poor equipment maintenance and cleaning have been highlighted with news that a restaurant boss in Leamington has been banned from working with food and fined over £5000 for breaching hygiene regulations.

Amer El Sawi, who ran the Fairuz 2 restaurant in Augusta Place, was sentenced in his absence by Warwick Crown court.

His rap sheet included 17 breaches of food hygiene regulations over two inspections carried out last year.

Breaches ranged from failing to ensure sufficient ventilation; and failing to ensure drainage facilities were adequate. He also failed to ensure that fittings and equipment with which food came into contact were effectively cleaned and, where necessary, disinfected.
