Refrigeration deal broker hails significance of merger

Accountancy and business advisory firm BDO LLP has described Epta’s recent takeover of commercial and retail refrigeration firm Cold Service Group as a “significant step” for the Italian giant.

BDO LLP’s Leeds office advised Epta and its UK subsidiary, George Barker, on the acquisition of the Hampshire group, which was announced earlier this month.

Through the deal, Epta has massively expanded its UK service footprint and gained access to a customer base that includes Harrods, Fortnum & Mason, Greggs, Morrisons and Pret a Manger.

BDO’s transaction services partner, Matt Copley, led the team that worked on the deal with support from assistant director Rob Dawes.

He said: “This deal marks a significant step forward in Epta’s growth strategy, providing blanket coverage across the UK. The subsidiary of George Barker continues to drive growth across the north, with Cold Service providing further expansion in the south; bringing together these two British brands will bring growth opportunities for the entire group.”

Law firm Clarion provided legal advice, led by senior associate Rachel Dean.

Bradford-based George Barker was founded in 1928 and became part of Epta when it was acquired by the company in 1999.
