RDA has worked in collaboration with Noviniti, Catfoss, Compass Group and other project partners to install a brand-new entrance concourse at Northampton General Hospital.

The project was substantial, with the prefab modular structure being built offsite by Catfoss, before RDA completely fitted out the interior. The main aim for the client was to significantly improve the experience for staff, patients and visitors at the hospital.

The client wanted brand new catering and retail units included in the fit out. RDA was commissioned to install a Costa Coffee, an M&S Simply Food and a Subway, along with retail store Stockshop, a reception area and new patient toilets. It was hoped the familiar high street brands along with the smart and modern entrance and reception area would enhance the user experience.

In the Costa, the distributor outfitted Welbilt Merrychef units for cooking, as well as the brand’s ice machines, plus Electrolux refrigeration cabinets, a Hobart dishwasher and Victor refrigerated displays as part of the front counter.

The Subway also houses Welbilt Merrychef units and a Hobart dishwasher, as well as True Refrigeration units and a Duke proofer oven.

While the M&S Simply Foods outlet was fitted with Mono ovens and Epta refrigeration cabinets.

Despite an early weather-related setback during the construction phase, RDA worked hard to install the interior in only 10 weeks so that the project came in on time and on budget.

The retail stores and outlets are designed to offer quality food, drinks, clothes and supplies and offer an escape from the clinical areas of the wards.

It was also paramount to provide a safe and welcoming space for patients and visitors who might be going through the most difficult and stressful time of their life.

The new main entrance serves as a focal point for the hospital with a contemporary and comforting design. This new look reflects the hospital’s reputation as being an excellent healthcare provider.

RDA director, Neil Addyman, said: “This is our kind of project. We’ve got such a talented team at RDA with diverse and wide-ranging skillsets. There’s nothing we can’t get our teeth into. Whether it’s catering, healthcare, education, or business and industry, we really can design, supply and install pretty much any kind of project.

“And there’s an added element of satisfaction when working with the NHS. The staff do such amazing work in such challenging circumstances – especially over the past couple of years.”
