Kitchen infrastructure specialist PKL has launched a new, delivery-only ‘dark’ kitchens brand with a new website, new products, and Deliveroo’s ex-head of property acquisition at the helm.
PKL Delivery Kitchens hired former-Deliveroo man Charlie Farr, who launched the very first delivery-only kitchen in the UK in 2015 – which was supplied by PKL.
Farr said: “I’m delighted to join PKL Delivery Kitchens and the Lowe Corporation family. We’re aiming to build a global brand helping operators and hospitality professionals in this growing global market.
“Part of my role is to bring together the huge knowledge and experience of Lowe and PKL in the food and catering sector to help further accelerate the growth of the Delivery Kitchens division across US, Europe, UAE, and Asia.”
Operators and hospitality entrepreneurs are taking advantage of lower costs of entry to the market that delivery-only offers compared to traditional bricks and mortar sites, and the ability to scale quickly to multiple sites in just months, rather than years.
This year PKL Delivery Kitchens has launched a new website and added several products to its offer: fast-fit walls allow developers to create discrete kitchen spaces within buildings quickly and with easy access to services; mobile trailer kitchens can be deployed on-site within days of first enquiry; and dark stores allow grocery delivery companies to quickly set up operation fulfilment hubs, a trend which has been boosted by the pandemic.
PKL’s global offering, supported by Lowe Corporation’s worldwide network of sites, gives it a platform to grow as the delivery-only market does over the next decade, said Farr. PKL Delivery Kitchens is already working with some of the biggest names in the delivery-only space: Deliveroo, DoorDash, Reef, Karma Kitchens, and Delivery Hero.
Farr concluded: “We’ve got a good selection of product solutions and a worldwide footprint that will allow us to help customers across the globe and in the UK.
“The market is only just getting started and we are looking forward to helping a wide range of operators and entrepreneurs get up and running with their own delivery kitchens.”
