As the food to go market continues to flourish so the decision by Metcalfe Catering Equipment to create its own high speed cooking solutions range looks more and more prescient.
“Over the past few years it has become more and more obvious where the growth in foodservice is coming from and we felt that the rise of food to go presented a real opportunity for us from an equipment perspective,” says managing director, Neil Richards.
He explains how when it comes to equipment for traditional ‘at table’ restaurants the market is very mature. This means that the companies and solutions on offer are very well established. Richards draws on the example of the number of warewashing and combi oven suppliers to illustrate his point. By contrast, the food to go market is much younger, something that is reflected in the types of equipment available, as well as the number of active suppliers, and this is where we believe the opportunity lies.
Richard continues: “Through our exclusive association with Australian manufacturer Roband we have gradually increased our portfolio of products for this market and have now given it even greater impetus following our appointment as sole distributor for Atollspeed high-speed ovens in the UK. Entering into exclusive partnerships with these manufacturers, and others such as Ceado and Edlund, has enabled us to move with the times and tailor our equipment offer accordingly.”
Metcalfe initially started off with Roband milkshake and drinks mixers and subsequently added its unique contact grills and Sycloid toaster to the Metcalfe range – both of which have gone on to be hugely successful for the firm, winning awards along the way. The addition of the Atollspeed range of high speed ovens means that within Metcalfe’s portfolio – which also includes a wide range of food preparation equipment that it manufactures itself in the UK – it is able to meet the equipment demands of food to go operators from start to finish.
“As the market continues to evolve so we will continue to look for other partner companies who will enable us to fine tune our offer still further whilst adhering to our objective of providing strong, high quality equipment, designed to perform time after time in tough foodservice environments,” Richards concludes.
