Fernando Bataller, MD of autodecco design software, believes that better presentation in 3D is the best way to get your client on side by providing clarity:
Whilst being a designer of catering kitchens, food courts, hotels and restaurants requires the designer to have the technical ability to design a layout that works for the people who will be using it, they also need the technical knowledge of the equipment that is to be included in the design and in-depth knowledge of rules and regulations.
It is very often the case that the client cannot visualise nor understand what’s being presented and offered to them. The design and proposal has to be sold to the client to secure the order and essentially put the wheels in motion.
A fundamental rule of selling is to ‘create the desire and then satisfy it’ and the technical plans, although impressive, are never going to achieve the want and desire to have it quite like seeing high-quality set of plans, together with a stunning 3D photo realistic image. This is the ultimate way for a designer to get their ideas across.
The domestic kitchen market has been using CAD for over 30 years now and not to be able to design and present rendered 3D images is almost unheard of in this day and age. The foodservice industry has really started to embrace the logic behind this and we have seen orders increase year on year for the past 6 years in a row.
As one of less than a handful of CAD companies worldwide offering an industry-specific design package for foodservice designers, there is a long way to go in regards to how manufacturers support companies who are offering their products.
Users of our own autodecco PRO food service design software have the benefit of importing 3D model blocks from their own suppliers into our software and not the whole catalogue, just the products they sell.
In the absence of specific manufacturers’ products, we have hundreds of generic products to cover all aspects of product types. However, if manufacturers/suppliers made their complete catalogues available to CAD companies, that could be hugely beneficial from a marketing point of view. If their product models were available, it’s natural that the designer will take the easy option to include and design with the product model blocks they already have. These product blocks can include BIM information and can be included and viewed with any number of BIM model viewers. I can only confirm that autodecco can do this using the IFC file format, as some cannot.
When designing in 3D and presenting high-quality rendered images to complement technical plans, you can be assured that the client will be impressed and more likely to understand and value your proposal.
In addition to the drawing and design features of 3D design software, the best systems will be able to cost the project and produce the quotation.
Our own autodecco PRO software has more features and benefits that are described here. Demonstrations are free and without obligation if you want to learn more, but with leasing and rental schemes that are tax efficient available it’s something every supplier of products that needs to plan and present should look into.
