Open kitchen boosts Shropshire venue’s trade


Catering Design Group (CDG) has completed a refurbishment project involving the new ‘Ludlow Kitchen’ restaurant, which forms part of Ludlow Food Centre — 2013 winners of the UK Farm Retailer of the Year award.

The kitchen revamp is part of a move that has seen the Shropshire-based venue expand its operation from 60 covers to 140, as well as introduce an evening restaurant service.

Provenance is a key focus of the menu, with virtually all the food for the restaurant being sourced in-house from Ludlow Food Centre, just 100 metres away.

The catering facilities are supported by a state-of-the-art kitchen with open pass, through which diners can see their food being freshly prepared.

The kitchen installed by Daventry-based CDG has doubled in size to 60 square metres and features equipment that gives a high-end aesthetic appearance.

The design and specification makes best use of the narrow space and is a perfect platform to display the artistry of the chefs who cater for breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner.

As well as the kitchen, CDG was involved in designing the aesthetics of the dining areas.

Edward Berry, managing director, Ludlow Food Centre said the new set-up was already delivering results since it officially opened six weeks ago.

“To date, customers have increased by 10% and spend is up by around 30% to 40% a day,” he revealed. “Our evening clientele is new and I’m delighted to say we had 40 covers on Saturday evening, which is great.”
