In a break from tradition, First Choice Group is, in 2017, supporting one charity and one-charity alone. So far this year, Old Tree Nursery has benefitted to the tune of almost £1,000, collected from a series of fundraising events and donations.
Partners Wellbilt, Glen Dimplex and Hobart have also chipped in their support, providing items for a number of First Choice staff raffles which have included food and drink hampers, shopping vouchers and kitchen items like toasters and kettles.
The decision to streamline donations to this particular recipient came in October after the Wolverhampton based charity – which provides training and employment opportunities for people with learning difficulties and poor mental health – was the victim of a robbery which claimed its entire funding.
First Choice MD John Whitehouse, was so moved by the group’s plight he donated £1,000 to its fundraising appeal which helped to save it from closure and restore its provision.
“Community is at the very heart and soul of what First Choice Group stands for so we feel privileged to be able to support Old Tree Nursery as our chosen charity for 2017,” said John.
“It is a fantastic community resource which makes a real difference in people’s lives, giving those in need of help a real sense of hope and opportunity.”
Service users and staff from Old Tree recently visited First Choice Group to meet members of the company’s social committee which is responsible for staging and managing the fundraising activities.
Spokeswoman for Old Tree Nursery, Verity Steele, said: “Not only does the money we receive provide service users with learning opportunities it also gives them invaluable life experience, giving them the skills and the confidence they need to grow and develop as people.”
