Norfolk equipment distributor Peachman has modernised the refrigeration set-up of a local school that churns out close to 200 meals a day by installing a range of kit from manufacturer True.
Peachman was given the task of sourcing refrigeration systems that met Little Plumstead School’s key buying criteria of capacity and longevity, and opted for two upright fridges, two upright freezers and two door fridge counters made by True.
The company’s project manager, Daniel Ridd, said True’s five-year warranty on compressors was the “decision clincher.”
Ridd said it was relatively unusual for a primary school kitchen to have under counter refrigeration cabinets, but Peachman’s hand was forced by space constraints.
“A key feature of this project was the limited space — it meant we had to go with cabinets rather than include a cold room,” he said. “The uprights gave us a huge capacity for a relatively small footprint, while the counters enabled us to combine prep surfaces with a large refrigerated capacity, helping create extra storage.”
The school’s catering service is run by contract caterers Edwards & Blake, which also prepares dinners for a neighbouring school. On a typical day it starts at 7.30am and cooks around 170 meals.
