New Rational combi-steamers top 10,000 sales mark


Rational claims its much-vaunted new combi-steamers have already made a huge splash in the market, with more than 10,000 orders placed in the first seven weeks of the unit’s launch.

Rational unveiled the ‘SelfCookingCenter whitefficiency’ system in September 2011 with the claim that its ‘HiDensityControl’ technology improves cooking output while reducing consumption.

The Germany-based outfit insists the system is capable of delivering a 20% saving in the consumption of resources versus conventional combi-steamers, while also carrying a 30% greater load.

Axel Roddewig, head of production at Rational, says the company has already had to ramp up its production schedules to ensure it can fulfil demand.

“We had to increase production capacity by 20% to keep pace with incoming orders,” says Roddewig. “The average production was around 160 units per day before we launched the new model. Right now we are manufacturing 250 units a day and our target is 275.”

Roddewig said that in the first seven weeks following the launch, the factory’s five assembly lines dispatched 6,500 units from the ‘Testkunde’, which is where every unit is tested before it is shipped to its final destination worldwide.

In addition to fresh pasta that can be prepared using the system’s steam generation function, baking is a major function of the SelfCookingCenter whitefficiency.
