New fabricator dives into competitive market

Dolphin Catering Fabrications is now open in Sheffield.

There’s a new fabricator on the catering equipment block thanks to the establishment of Dolphin Catering Fabrications in Sheffield.

The firm specialises in the design and installation of bespoke ventilation systems, but can also provide general fabrications such as shelving, hot cupboards, counters and tabling. Furthermore, it also offers fire suppression system installation and full cleaning.

Manager David Gisbourne detailed the company’s inception: “I come from a background of bespoke catering fabrications manufacturing and so initially this was always something I wanted to do. As the years have progressed I have developed design skills that compliment this industry.

“The idea therefore was to create a company that could provide a high level of professional design at a budget cost. Because our overheads are low and our systems relatively basic compared to others it means we are extremely competitive.”

He added: “The planning and preparation seemed to take months, however maybe this was also partly due to finding the courage needed. Once a suitable location had been established we then had to source the relevant machinery, vehicles, signage etc. By good fortune alone we were able to find some excellent local sheet metal workers who had unexpectedly found themselves out of work. In the end it probably took about 6 months.”

In terms of what differentiates Dolphin from existing competitors, he commented: “I think really it is our level of competitiveness. We have not set out to provide the highest level of specification. Our target market is basic systems such as primary schools, local pub restaurants and local takeaways.”

The fabricator’s website is now live and details some of the projects it has already undertaken, such as fitting a bespoke stainless steel extraction-only type canopy at Beetle Bank Farm in York, and an island-type extraction/supply canopy plus ductwork for Alfreton Park Community Special School in Derbyshire.

Dolphin offers both 304 and 430 grade stainless steel, and a range of finishes including bright, dull and circular polish. As well as a system design service it has the facility to provide fully working 2D and 3D kitchen ventilation layout drawings.

Its on-site engineers have training certificates for mobile vertical and mobile boom lifting equipment, PASMA tower certificates, PASMA site ID cards, CSCS cards, abrasive wheel training and asbestos awareness certificates.

  1. surely DW172 states that only 304 grade stainless steel is used in extraction systems so why are they manufacturing in 430 grade. But good luck I know how difficult it is to manufacture bespoke items at low cost

  2. David, the article does say that they provide extract systems in 430 only that they offer that grade of steel as do most fabricators for legs and such like.
