Nevilles ramps up product development plans

Tableware and light equipment supplier Nevilles is almost doubling its investment in new product development this year as it ramps up the frequency with which new lines are released.

The Kent-based company, which produces the Genware range of catering products, plans to boost its offering as it looks to meet demand from customers eager to keep pace with changing front-of-house trends.

Nevilles sales director, David Lee, revealed: “We are investing £500,000 in new product development this year and there will be a launch every three months.”

Lee said the investment included the cost of stock, procuring the product from the factory and the first three months’ order forecast. Last year, it spent around £300,000 on product development, so it represents a significant commitment for the firm.

“We are seeing huge growth from product development to match our full category approach,” explained Lee. “It is a key part of Nevilles’ strategy.”

He added that Nevilles had also increased its investment in areas such as product photography, where it has begun adopting more of a lifestyle approach, which would also benefit distributors. The company currently offers 2,200 lines, with new slate, enamel and melamine tableware recently added to the offering, as well as a new buffet range. It also distributes the popular Giesser knife brand.

“Our aim is to give the chef as many ideas and ways to present their food and maintain their price point or raise their price points as possible,” said Lee.
