A lot has changed at Space Catering Equipment since Ian Bidmead joined the company 3 years ago — not least his own role and the structure of the wider organisation.
Ian came on board as commercial director with a strong pedigree of sales success in the foodservice industry, but these days he serves as managing director of the Space Group.
Now incorporating equipment, interiors, furniture, design and service divisions, Space can provide customers with a full turnkey hospitality package that meets all their needs.
Working closely with Space CEO and founder, Mike Mellor, Ian continues to look for ways in which the Gloucestershire-based outfit can add further value to its business.
It wasted no time last year in snapping up the assets of Holmes Catering Equipment after the York-based distributor went into administration, significantly strengthening its geographic presence in the north and giving it access to its own in-house fabrication facilities for the first time.
With a London office also now in place, Space can boast true national coverage to go alongside the depth of services it offers.
While Holmes Catering Equipment Solutions, as it is now known, has added more to Space’s plate, there is no doubt that it is paying dividends in terms of accessing untapped parts of the market.
It has won a major contract to outfit 30 Tesco staff restaurants and tied up a £400,000 job with York Racecourse that was in the pipeline before the takeover was completed.
