Engineer Phil Davis is the first in the country to operate a franchise under the umbrella of UK kitchen maintenance firm MCFT.
The servicing company is a national organisation with regional teams covering the UK, fixing fridges and ovens in businesses, healthcare institutions, airports, sports and leisure stadiums and heritage sites.
However, there are some areas of the country that have differing demands. They may have more cafes, pubs, quick service restaurants and hotels than big businesses. These are typically outside the normal MCFT remit, so in the last year, the franchise model has been created to provide opportunities for experienced engineers who want to run their own business.
Based in Nottinghamshire, Davis is the first franchisee to be up and running.
Having started as an apprentice electrician at Britvic, he has held various roles over the years including a stint in sales. MCFT felt his experience and background were ideal for running his own business under its umbrella.
Sales and operational support such as invoicing and paperwork is provided, meaning that Davis should be able to focus on working with his customer base and building his business locally.
He said: “I feel very proud to be driving round in my branded van and meeting customers, safe in the knowledge that the MCFT team have my back. It’s so refreshing to have invoicing and chasing payments taken care of. It means I can spend my weekends with the family instead of catching up with admin.”
MCFT’s CEO, Chris Craggs explained why the company decided to adopt the franchise model: “We know technicians would much rather be practicing their skills on installing and fixing equipment than losing time on paperwork, still less chasing money.
“We can enable them to do just that – run their own business, focusing on their strengths and using our systems and back-office team to complement their efforts. Win-win-win: customer-franchisee-MCFT. We know there will be many more wanting to follow Phil’s example.”
