Marren Group is celebrating after winning an award recognising its role in bringing young people through the industry.
The company has just been named the 2014 ‘Apprentice Employer of the Year’ by Nital, the Northamptonshire-based training and development organisation.
Marren directors were presented with the award by Andy Sawford MP at a ceremony involving companies from a variety of industries.
The accolade caps a hat-trick of apprentice-based award wins for Marren over the last two years.
In 2012, Marren’s Kane Needs scooped Nital’s ‘Advanced Apprentice’ and ‘Outstanding Achievement’ awards, while Matt Bullen picked up the ‘Outstanding Achievement’ title last year.
Marren badges itself as the largest independent services provider for commercial microwaves and specialises in products made by a variety of manufacturers including Panasonic, Sharp, Hatco, TurboChef and Electrolux high speed grills.
Until recent years Marren generally hadn’t operated a formal apprenticeship scheme, but the award win two years ago made it reconsider its approach to bringing young blood into the company.
“Our business is divided into six regions, with a supervisor for each, and we’re now going to offer the opportunity for them to mentor an apprentice and bring that person through into the company,” managing director Bob Clifford said at the time.
