Manitowoc has landed a contract to provide McDonald’s with more than 1,000 units of the product that won it the ‘Catering Equipment Innovation’ award at this year’s Hotelympia.
The manufacturer’s Multiplex Blend-in-Cup — a blended beverage product workstation — has being installed at McDonald’s outlets in Germany. Between 60 and 100 installations have been taking place each week as part of the project.
It is not clear whether the roll-out will be followed in other countries although in Germany the company confirmed that “the expansion of this product offering will continue beyond the summer months”.
The Multiplex Blend-in-Cup was developed for use in the catering industry and will be used to ensure the successful implementation of the new McDonald’s blended beverage products.
“The successful implementation of this project strengthens our reputation as the market leader in the blended beverage sector,” declared Jonathan Smith, EMEA blended ice project manager at Manitowoc Foodservice.
In addition to easy and intuitive operation, the Multiplex Blend-in-Cup can be used with great versatility, producing fruit smoothies and frappes in different variations.
Due to the use of nugget ice in the integrated ice machine, operation is quiet, low maintenance and adaptable to different operating hours. This, says Manitowoc, means time and energy savings, especially in restaurants that have peak hours as well as quieter periods.
McDonald’s Germany has awarded Manitowoc the national ‘BIC Roll-Out Award 2014’ for the project.
