Pump Technology’s DrainMajor has been specified by Nova Design for a staff dining site.

London-based distributor Nova Design has teamed up with Pump Technology to meet a hot wastewater pumping requirement at a staff dining site.

The customer wished to refurbish its company catering facilities to provide a modern and sophisticated canteen for the workforce. This involved a complete commercial kitchen refurbishment with new equipment which included a catering dishwasher with high temperature wastewater discharge.

The canteen area is located on the first floor of the building. However, due to ownership and usage of the ground floor, all waste drainage has to be pumped to the second floor before being routed to the main drainage system. The original pump was felt to be inadequate due to its size, robustness and, more importantly, only being rated for wastewater pumping to a nominal 40°C.

As the wastewater from the new commercial dishwasher can be discharged at up to 85°C, a specialised hot wastewater submersible pumping system was required.

Giovanni Insalaco, MD of Nova Design said: “Our first choice for wastewater pumping systems is always Pump Technology. Their team of application engineers have a range of knowledge in the field of catering pumping solutions which is second to none and once again, for this project, they had a proven solution. This time it was the DrainMajor 730HES.”

This is a floor mounted wastewater pumping system with a dedicated hot water submersible pump. The pump is installed in the DrainMajor, which is manufactured by Pump Technology. This features a robust, rigid, recyclable, polyethylene, floor mounted tank. The system is provided complete with internal pipework and non-return valve. High level alarms and micro vents can also be supplied.

The tank lid can be quickly removed without the need for any tools for ease of maintenance.

Installation is said to be simple and adaptable with single or multiple inlets being cut to fit pipe layout onsite.

The 730HES pump is rated for liquid temperatures up to 90°C and features a stainless-steel housing with a cast iron pump body. The shaft sealing is via a SIC mechanical seal, with inner lip seal. The pump performance is capable of a discharge head up to 12, which should enable reliable pumping from equipment such as commercial dishwashers, pasta makers and cookers.

Insalaco added: “Pump Technology had the DrainMajor in stock so it was on site the very next day. We are always pleased with the quality of the equipment and its reliability.”
