Logistics giant's catering equipment blueprint

Global logistics giant Norbert Dentressangle is stepping up its focus on the industry after developing a portfolio of services it believes are readymade for catering equipment suppliers.

The company’s Specialist Services in the UK has identified foodservice equipment as one of its core growth areas this year, making it a strategic goal to increase its work in the sector.

“The product is a great fit for our network model and we have got proven expertise in the sector from working with some leading brands,” insists Damien Oliphant, general manager of specialist services. “It’s an area we are really targeting to grow over the next 12 to 18 months.”

Norbert has provided logistics services for Hobart for more than a decade, but beyond that its connections with the catering equipment sector have been limited. However, this year has already seen the company ink logistics deals with Blue Seal, Electrolux and Valera.

Oliphant says the firm believes it has a clear understanding of what the catering equipment market place needs and has created a broad range of delivery and warehousing services to meet those requirements.

“We offer a fairly standard single-man undercover delivery — which is the entry level if you like — as well as a two-man delivery to point of use, even three- or four-man crews for really big items. It could be ground floor, upstairs, downstairs — we will literally deliver it to the point of use, including the removal of packaging and taking away pallets.

“We also offer time-specific deliveries, including early mornings and nights, and reverse logistics, so the collection of items going back to their warehouses. We’ll also manage any units for WEEE recycling. What we are aiming to do is provide a one-stop-shop.”

Oliphant added that the company could offer true national next-day coverage and while other standard pallet companies offer that service he believes Norbert’s expertise in handling fragile and expensive equipment gives it the edge.
