Lloyd Catering Equipment has worked closely in partnership with US based foodservice equipment specialist Stafford-Smith to create the first Wahlburgers outlet outside North America.

The restaurant group was founded in 2011 by big Hollywood names Paul, Donnie and Mark Wahlberg and now has 30 sites operating across the North American continent.

A reality television series based on behind the scenes day to day running of the restaurant chain aptly named ‘Wahlburgers’ first aired in the US in the beginning of 2014 and received an Emmy nomination for “Outstanding Unstructured Reality Program” later the same year. The popular TV show has since run for nine seasons, 84 episodes with the tenth in production on the American A&E network.

The prime site acquired by Wahlburgers in Covent Garden is now home to the first operation outside the US. The double fronted premises on James Street lies directly beneath the Royal Opera House. Spanning two floors the establishment has restaurant seating on both floors, a bar area as well as a merchandise store.

Lloyd oversaw the project, which included both a kitchen on the lower floor and a bar at street level. The location of the kitchen and available access dictated that most of the kitchen equipment had to be transported down two flights of the central feature staircase.

Equipment used included refrigerated cabinets and coldrooms from Foster along with cooking equipment from Magi Kitchen, Pitco, Hatco and Hobart.

Foster products in the kitchen included five EcoPro G2 cabinets, two prep stations, Slimline, low level and undercounter cabinets.

The bar area has a Maxiglass 500 litre upright bottle cooler, six E3 bottle coolers (2 door, 3 door, and 4 door) and a walk-in keg cooler. A large coldroom has also been installed.

Cris Gross, VP of sales and marketing at Stafford-Smith, said: “We were really pleased with Foster’s support, they went the extra mile to ensure we got exactly what we wanted. We’re looking forward to working on the next venture with Foster and Gamko.”

Chef Paul Wahlberg developed the menu for the restaurant group inspired by his family’s favourite dishes.

The red-carpet opening party took place on Saturday 4 May and was attended by Mark Wahlberg along with a host of other celebrities. The restaurant officially opened its doors to the public on 20 May.
