The manufacturing of Middleby’s Q90 range of prime cooking equipment has been transferred back to the Giga factory in Italy.
Originally devised by the Giga team, the Q90 range was moved to the Middleby Group brand’s Lincat manufacturing facility in Lincoln in September 2013, following input by Lincat’s 12-strong research and development team.
However the decision to switch responsibility for Q90 back to Italy was taken at the end of last year.
Helen Applewhite, marketing manager of Lincat explained: “Q90 is aimed, primarily, at the European market, with standard widths of 400mm, 800mm and 1,200mm.
“British equipment is typically smaller and it makes sense therefore, from both the manufacturing and access to markets perspectives, for it to be manufactured in Italy going forwards.
“Added to that, all our efforts are focused here at Lincat on the completion of our new range of Opus 800 prime cooking equipment and the next generation of FilterFlow water boilers, which we are planning to launch at the Commercial Kitchen exhibition in June.”
The range’s international brand manager, Richard Fordham, has also left as a result of this development, as the Q90 sales function has transferred back to Italy too.
However the Q90 range is still available in this country through Middleby UK.
