Commercial refrigeration equipment manufacturer Liebherr has reassured the industry that it’s business as usual, following a fire at a warehouse it uses.

The third party premises in Sywell, Northamptonshire, is operated by Yusen Logistics.

Fire broke out at the warehouse in the Sywell Aerodrome Business Park on 7 May, with around 15 Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service vehicles on site at the height of the blaze.

Crews remained on scene until May 8, when the site was handed back to the aerodrome.

Liebherr only utilised the premises for boxed stock and the company confirmed to Catering Insight that no appliances were operating at the site.

No Liebherr employees work on the site either, and fortunately the blaze did not cause any loss of life or injury to the Yusen Logistics staff there.

The refrigeration manufacturer acknowledged that there had been some disruption to its supply but that deliveries have already re-started.

Liebherr has five alternative warehouses in the UK to draw resources from to ensure continuity of supply.

Investigations are underway into the cause of the fire.
