Kitchen gas blast injures pastry chef


A pastry chef has been hospitalised after gas explosion in the kitchen of a Bolton restaurant.

The chef was working in the kitchen at Suzanna’s in Blackrod when the blast occurred.

It is not yet known what caused the explosion, but Bolton Council is understood to be aware of the incident and will carry out an investigation.

The chef was airlifted to hospital after suffering substantial burns to his arms, chest, head and neck, according to The Bolton News.

Another cook from the restaurant was also taken to hospital with arm and facial injuries but was discharged the same day.

Fire crews spent three hours at the scene following the incident in order to isolate the gas and make the area safe. The restaurant has now re-opened.
